  • About Lemon Pure Essential Oil

Lemon essential oil for acne prone skin:
Lemon essential oil can be added to treatment blends and skin care products that help manage acne. Acne is an inflammatory condition with an overproduction of sebum making it easier for infections to set in. Sebum over-production is linked to certain hormone patterns which is why the condition is more common for teenagers. Acne tends to be caused by a bacterial infection and Lemon has excellent antibacterial and antiseptic properties. Lemon is also indicated for the treatment of boils which can sometimes accompany more severe cases of acne. The astringent quality is useful to tone the skin and help reduce excessive oil (sebum) production. Lemon essential oil may be added to steam treatments or used in a 1% dilution for the face. Lemon has been used to reduce the appearance of sun spots, scarring and other skin discolorations caused by acne.

Lemon essential oil for body systems

    Circulatory system:
Lemon is traditionally associated with cleansing and detoxification. Lemon is thought to clean the blood and regulate its consistency. As a blood vessel tonic, Lemon is used to treat varicose veins and other surface veins such as spider veins. Lemon may assist in the reduction of plaque build-up in arteries. Another popular use is for the reduction of cellulite and stubborn adipose deposits due to Lemon’s diuretic and anti-inflammatory properties. For this purpose a 2.5 -5% dilution of Lemon essential oil can be massaged into the affected area such as the abdomen and thighs. This is a complimentary treatment that should accompany dietary and lifestyle modifications too.

    Immune system:
Researchers have taken an interest in the antimicrobial property of Lemon essential oil especially given the rise of treatment resistant pathogens or superbugs. So far it seems that bugs do not become resistant to essential oils, although, this is a fairly new area of research. Lemon essential oil has been used to support the immune system through its broad spectrum antimicrobial action; it helps the immune system fight off germs. From thrush, boils, skin infections to colds and flu, Lemon is a powerful helper to the immune system. Lemon essential oil is reported to increase the production of white blood cells which are part of the immune response. We can benefit from Lemon essential oil during times of illness by massaging diluted essential oil into feet or affected areas, in steam inhalations or in the diffuser. Lemon essential oil is a useful addition to homemade cleaning products such as surface sprays and disinfectant.

    Colds and flu:
We can use Lemon essential oil to lift our spirits and immune system during respiratory illness. Colds and flu tend to be caused by viruses and bacterial infections. Lemon essential oil has a strong antimicrobial action and may be used in a blend added to a steam inhalation treatment. Lemon has been reported to help symptoms of fever that can accompany illness. This pleasant and uplifting oil can be diffused in the sick room to help disinfect the air and help cheer the patient up. There is some evidence that Lemon essential oil may be useful in the management of asthma and bronchitis possibly due to the anti-inflammatory nature of the oil. It is thought that the high content of limonene in all citrus oils contribute to their anti-inflammatory action. It may also be included in massage and diffuser blends for those who are immunocompromised or prone to chest infection due to being generally run-down.

    Digestive system:
Lemon essential oil can support the digestive system in many ways. From an Ayuvedic perspective the colour yellow is strongly linked to the solar plexus chakra and therefore used to support and strengthen this area. Generally, the anti-inflammatory action can soothe upset stomachs and irritations caused by food allergies or an unhealthy balance of gut flora. This cleansing essential oil can be useful to inhale or add to a massage blend to help uncomfortable feelings or nausea after overindulging. In fact, Lemon is recommended for mild morning sickness during pregnancy. The toning and astringent action of Lemon makes it a good remedy for diarrhea and poor digestion. Traditionally, Lemon has been used to support gallbladder and pancreas function. Both are vital to a well functioning digestive system. To enjoy the benefits of Lemon essential oil for digestive health, add it to a blend of essential oils in a dilution of 2.5 to 5%. Gently apply the massage blend in a clockwise direction over the abdomen and into the lower back.

    The focused mind:
In a well-documented experiment from Japan, it was found that burning Lemon essential oil in an office reduced typing mistakes by around 50%. Was this because the oil helps our concentration or does the sweet scent make us better at typing? Either way we can benefit from this knowledge and diffuse Lemon at the office, in the home office during business hours or in the kids’ study room. Lemon has long been used for students of all ages to help them focus and concentrate. The vibrant fragrance does seem to clear away foggy and fatigued thoughts and allow fresh inspiration to come through. On a more subtle note, Lemon essential oil is beneficial for the overthinkers who find it hard to come to the heart of the matter. Lemon can assist when logical thought is needed and especially useful for making big decisions. During times of emotional overload Lemon can revive and comfort us. A companion to those experiencing burnout, melancholy and unhelpful reoccurring thoughts. Allow fresh Lemon to clear the way to better mental health.
